JOB SUMMARY

The Shipping Clerk is responsible for fulfilling orders, working both independently and on a team.  Package all orders for customer deliveries, pick-ups and shipments.  All product must be packaged securely and addressed properly in order to arrive at its destination timely intact and with no damage.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  1. Accurately package, label, and weigh items to be shipped ensuring proper shipment method and shipping charges.
  2. Ensure all shipments receive the proper labeling and postal charges and are packaged to arrive safely.
  3. Prepare detailed and accurate invoices according to shipping procedures and ensure all items are packaged and shipped to company standards.
  4. Work with other shipping clerks to ensure all invoicing is handled properly and promptly.
  5. Demonstrate initiative, commitment to team work and enthusiasm for customer service.
  6. Schedule pickup and delivery of merchandise by common carriers.
  7. Track packages using computer system.
  8. Ensure work is done safely and meets quality standards.
  9. Maintain work area and equipment in a clean and orderly condition.
  10. Take inventory at designated schedule times during the year.
  11. Perform additional duties as needed.

  • Requires solid written and verbal communication skills.
  • Must be detail oriented, self-motivated and disciplined with the ability to multi-task.
  • Must be able to operate a lift truck and forklift in a professional and safe manner.
  • Ability to problem solve quickly and prioritize daily work.
  • Takes pride in work produced and displays teamwork.
  • Possess willingness to learn
  • Must have computer skills and the ability to learn new software programs.
  • Excellent attention to detail.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS INCLUDE, BUT NOT LIMITED TO

  • Must be physically able to perform work assigned.
  • Ability to maintain a high level of physicality for prolonged periods of time and work primarily standing.
  • The employee will be exposed to the following working conditions: heat and cold, noise, vibration, oils, atmospheric conditions such as dust.
  • The employee will be required to perform the following actions: standing, walking, balancing, stooping, pushing, pulling, kneeling, bending, reaching, talking, seeing, hearing and sitting.
  • Must be able to lift a minimum of 50 pounds, as many packages and reels are large.

EXPERIENCE

Experience in a manufacturing/industrial environment, preferred.  A minimum of 1-3 years of work experience involving shipping related tasks is preferred. Experience using personal computers and basic typing skills are required.

EDUCATION

High School Diploma or GED equivalent preferred.  Must be able to work a flexible schedule Monday-Friday and some weekends on occasion.
